Review about my research and study experience at OBU
Gulnaz A
Kazakhstan, Graduate
International Relations, 2021
Overall
My study program consisted of the following courses: Global Political Economy, Advanced Research in International Relations, International Relations in Theory and Practice,  International Development, Critical Approaches to Terrorism, and final Dissertation.  I enjoyed studying all of them under the supervision of diligent and competent teaching staff. Discussing Research Methods in IR involved taking a detailed and precise ‘scientific approach’ to the study of the whole discipline.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
When going abroad for a sort period of time, on campus accomodation is the best solution; you don't waste time looking for a place to live upon arrival, and you can concentrate fully on your studies.

Personal comments
I stayed at Paul Kent hall, which is a hall mostly for foreign graduate students. It is a bit more expensive tha other halls, but it is new, and the facilities are great: rooms with attached bathrooms, new kitchens that are cleaned regularly, helpful reception desk, and a samll computer room. It is not very far from Uni, and there is a bus to the city centre every 20-30 minutes.

lack of communication with local students- a bit dissapointing- I am sure that I did not loose my French accent at all! I have just mixed it with German/Greek/Spannish/Chinese accents because of seaking a lot to International students but not local

Oxford it is a student city. Everything is thought for students, discounts, travels, nightlife, events. There are many options from clubs with parties organized by university to drink a coffe while you are watching to play a jazz band.

Academic
Course recommendations
In Oxford teachers are quite stricts with courseworks. The level of knowledge in lessons is high. Teachers demand self-study to students and facilities such as books and resources in library are amazing in quality and quantity
