Food and especially alcohol was way cheaper than in Finland and housing was cheap as well. It costs relatively little to call abroad if you have a landline and use the cheap lines (www.billigertelefonieren.de), but I spent so much time talking to my boyfriend that I spent a lot anyway.. :) Nightlife is not particularly expensive either, but as an exhange student you party more than usually... the same applies to travel. But you can get by with less than in Finland if you leave out the extras.

Idiomas
Comentario personal
My German was not great when I arrived in Bamberg. But the German as a foreign language department was very good and with all the socializing I did, my German was actually pretty fluent upon departure. But this only happens if you spend a whole year abroad. It takes about 5-6 months to get used to the concept. After that is when your language improves. Bamberg can be a bit tough because of the dialect, but the dialect actually is a conversation piece when you don't understand the locals. They often want to enlighten you on Franconian!

I am an international student, studying "International Software System Science" in English. The course offers many subjects and teaches you the upcoming technology. Professors are interactive and easy to contact.
And the city is breathtaking with the scenery.

Alojamiento
Tipo de alojamiento: En el campus
Organizado por: Independientemente - no había otra opción
Si volviera, eligiría: Piso o apartamento
¿Por qué?
Student's Home where I lived has been closed down Summer 2006 and the other ones are inacceptable

Organizado por: Universidad de intercambio
Si volviera, eligiría: Piso o apartamento
¿Por qué?
While it was easy to go to the university arranged housing, free market flats were quite cheap in Bamberg as well.

The apartments are ok - if you don't mind living in the not-so-pretty new part of this incredibly beautiful old town. Rates are cheap and there's a LOT of social life.
