Had to buy own food in Sweden, usually a bit more expensive than US. For nightlife, the alcohol prices are about twice as much as in the States. Public transportation was good.

There is a lot cheaper housing to be found if you do not work through the university. It requires some work, however. Unless you are EU, then health care is very expensive.
