This is the most dissapointing area of the whole exchange expreiece. I believed that I will develop my language skills, however, I do not have many opportunities to speak German. There are too many people of my naionality living in my halls of residence and far too many natives. It is difficult to meet Germans and make friends with them while being an international student surrounded by people from my country and othe rinternational students who always prefer to speak English due to their poor knowledge of German language.

Unless you get actively involved in activities outside of the University then it is very difficult to improve your German. My level of German only started to improve after I joined a football team and also I am now doing work experience here (which has been the biggest help to my German).

The key here is to get involved with German clubs or get a job. Essential to meet and befriend real Germans rather than sticking to other English people. Make the most of this year!

Everything was in German and that`s what I came there to do. If you want to study in the German-speaking area in English, go to Berlin or Vienna. Not in Munich.
