Learning all business fundamentals while becoming bilingual
Sébastien L
France, Undergraduate
Business Studies, 2020
Overall
My 4-year degree in International Business at Loughborough University can be summarised within three aspects with the first one being education. Thanks to teachers from all over the world,  high-quality content and outstanding facilities, I have never felt unhappy nor lazy to go to my lectures. I was lucky also to be accepted onto a course that was extremely open in terms of future perspectives. In fact, throughout my three years on campus, I had the chance to touch on management science, develop a financial background, learn about marketing practices, discover human resources and even get the chance to improve my Spanish from A2 to C1.
The second dimension is the student experience, notably ranked best in the U.K. for numerous years consequently. From student halls to nightlife/bars, restaurants and all the events organised by the 100+ student societies, I never felt bored by what the university and the city was offering me to do during my free time. I built a network of great friends from many countries worldwide and had some of the best times ever with them.
Lastly, there could not be a review on my experience at Loughborough University without mentioning the sport dimension. As I was lucky to be accepted at the field hockey trials in first year, I had the chance to get involved in a group of a hundred (most of them were English) students, all being high-level players. I would have training twice a week along two games per week too, while also playing tennis once every two weeks.

All in all, having had my first choice (Exeter) refuse me in 2016 for my English level that was not good after my French Baccalaureate, I cannot be more thankful for having been given a chance by my insurance choice, Loughborough University, to improve my English along my course and actually manage to get the 2:1 award (second highest honours) in overall average.

Pros
Living cost super cheap, insane sport level.facilities/coaching, 17% of foreigners across 16,000 students, 100+ student societies, great student union, quality courses, events everyday, high involvement in volunteering campaigns, sport-driven mentality+++
Cons
bit of the countryside, campus is very long, not the best outside looking facilities.

I study Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University.

Overall
The course is exciting and taught in a very engaging way. I have completed one year at university and have enjoyed most of my modules. I passed each module on the first attempt and achieved a 2:1 overall. The lecturers are very helpful, approachable, and always willing to help. I have gone to them numerous number of times for help and was very satisfied with the help I received.

Besides academics, I am also the Rag Representative for Royce Hall and Course Representative. As the Rag Representative, my job is to organize events to fundraise for charity. I have collaborated with Rag Representatives from other Halls as well as Rag Representatives from department committees to fundraise. I worked with the Rag committee in the student's union, and they were incredibly helpful by providing a helping hand and advice whenever needed.

As a Course Representative, my job is to work with my cohort and the senior academic team to make short and long-term improvements to the course. All of my collected feedback has opened grounds for discussion with other Course Representatives and the senior academic team to make changes to the course structure that will affect my cohort and the upcoming cohort as well. The senior academic team has kept an open mind to all of our feedback and discussed issues and solutions at length with us to reach a solution. The team has also been very supportive.

From my point of view is better to be in a hall on campus instead to be in the town.
