I wanted to learn dutch when I went to Belgium, and though I'm not a fluent spoker, I acquire some basic knowledge. In Antwerp people have three languages: Dutch, french and english. So, i had a chance to improve my english. Both with the local and the students, the language I used to communicate was english. That's why I only had some basic knowledge of dutch: there was no need for me to try.

Here it is needed to take under consideration the field of my studies which is translation. It gives a wide range of comunicaton skills not only in one lanuage, so I did not have any problems. If somebody did not speak English we could also switch into Spanish or try to cimmunicate in Dutch, which at some point also became possible to some extand.

Since the instruction was in English, I had no difficulties at all. Due to my house mates and the Dutch class, which I attended, I could cope pretty well in everyday situations and I could follow most of the times. Since everyone in Antwerp speaks several languages: English, French, German, etc, I never had a problem.

Everybodu in Antwerpen speaks English, so it was not difficult to comunicate with them. However, I attended some Flemish courses in order to integrate myself.
