“Great acedemics but a lot of pressure”
Marlies S
Netherlands, Graduate
Nutrition, 2022
Overall
My opinion is based on my bachelor experience, I cannot say anything about doing a masters at WUR.
In the bachelor, we did not do any internship and did not acquire any work experience. Moreover, we had no excursions. Also, the university does not provide feasible options for learning new languages or other skills (with feasible, I mean that it it does not cost a lot). I find this very unfortunate, because I believe that your life can be more than just acemedics and research. The university does not give students a lot of space to develope themselves in other fields than acedemics.

Pros
Acedemic faccilities and education is of very good level. Everyone speaks english and the university is very welcoming to international students.
Cons
Acedemic pressure is too high, giving students more space and time for developing themselves and finding their interest would be nice

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Wageningen University is one of the top universities in agricultural themes. There are plenty opportunities to learn and develop skills and the teaching method is quite good for international students, as most courses are tailer made.

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
It was hard at the beginning (0ne month), since I had no fluent english, and no idea of Dutch (dutch students always spoke it between them, then it was difficult the social life). After that time I met more international students (US, Canada) I started a friendship with. So I learnt a lot and after more than one and a half year I could speak fluently with everybody. Therefore my overall language and communication experience has been very positive, since I hope the adquired language use skills adcquired in Wageningen will give me an advantage in getting a job, either in Spain or in other european country.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Even if it was more expensieve I enjoyed living in the campus. The facilities were good and it provided me with a great social experience.

Personal comments
You can basically choose where you want to live. There are several student hostels with the description of the space offered and the facilities. You can opt for your own bathroom and kitchen or you can opt for shared ones. I found some of the student hostels more expensieve when compared to the rent you have to pay when you live in a room rented in a house that you share with other students outside the campus.

Academic
Course recommendations
Overal it is very well organised, with one exception though - Academic Master Cluster 1 (AMC 1). This course consists of 4 modules the students have to chose. Often they chose 4 modules and then when the schedule is published they see that the nodules overlap. In general the schedule is availbale for all the courses already in the beginning of the academic year and courses are very well organised, again with the exception of AMC 1.
