Japan is really expensive but there are ways to avoid the useless stuff. Once you get used to it it's not that bad. I never got used to 500 yen for a beer ($5) though.

I spent more because of all the travelling I did. Tried to experience as much as I could. Otherwise I believe that the prices are pretty simular to Stockholm prices.

Prices are higher, quanities are smaller but in the end, when you stop buying crap that you don't need, everything works out.

The cost of living in Japan is known to be one of the highest in the world. I was lucky that I had a scholarship that covered most of my expenses.

Getting a cellphone really costs a lot! Japanese cellphone companies give very little talk time in a plan. (a 4000 yen plan gave me only 66 minutes free talking), then there's other crap services thrown in which caused my bill to be around $100 a month! Also, taking the train and bus is costly as you go further out. In general, Japan is expensive!! Do NOT underestimate it. Every international student who I talked to, agrees with me.

Food is quite expensive here (eps. the produce). The telephones in the rooms don't make outgoing classes, so that solves that problem. Accomidations are a bit more expensive, but I live in a cheap city to live in. I go out less here then I do at home, so I spend about the same. Travel is expensive, but worth it.
