Business Education

Autriche, Licence

Évaluation globale
The studies of business education is very interesting when it comes to the development of pedagocical competencies, practicing teaching, organizing group works, writing reports, doing presentations. Unfortunately, the focus is mostly on teaching in Austrian schools which means that you'll have to learn a lot about laws and regulations for teaching in Austria. Adult education or coaching in international business settings is neglected. In my opinion the degree courses are a little bit too unilateral.

The subjects I studied in Biological Chemistry are very interesting and will be useful to me in the role if I am given the chance to serve the community. The lecturers are thorough and make sure you really understand what is been taught to you. The staffs are nice and help out whenever the students need help.

It is a great way to meet international students but quite difficult to interact with austrians. Bring lots of money and travel too!

A lot of the good courses are in English. Don't rush to register on the first day of registration. I know people who waited for about 5 hours, I went a week later and waited 5 minutes. If you need help go to your mentor or the REFI(Referat für Internationales), which is run by students. The Uni has set up Tandem-learning, where you are put into groups of native speakers of people who want to learn common languages, eg Austrians wanting to learn English with Americans wanting to learn German. It's a good way to get to know Austrians.

If you need help with something then just ask someone, most people are happy to help. Don't worry about the bad service that you sometimes get in shops and restaurants.

Commentaire personnel
The halls of residences are not owned by the university, but by private organisations. They are generally in very good condition, and are very reasonably priced, but tend to differ significantly between one another. I stayed at the international halles, the Julius Raab Heim. It was very well furnished with adequate facilities, but with excellent amenities. There is a cafe and a swimming pool, however this is mainly due to the fact that the halls double as a hotel. Organisation is very beaurocratic and tight, however we found our way round most problems. Tips: To have a glass of Sangria ready if the porter comes to turn the music down. Have parties in the boys kitchens as these do not face on the residents side.
