In the Netherlands I live with my parents and so most cost are for free! But also the telephone was higher due to calling home often, travel because I had more opportunity to travel and nightlife simply because you go out more often!

Just make sure that you arrange everything one week before classes start. Especially CAF!! and also take a french native speaker with you to banks etc. it makes it much easier and a lot of french students are more than willing to help you!

the food was more expensive, I did not have a phone in my exchange period, I live exeptionally cheap in my home country, and in general I think that you spend more money on fun and travelling because you are abroad for a limited period.

Food is quite expensive in France, better go to the big supermarkets out of town. Fixed line is quite cheap, cell not.

Don't shop at SHOPI!! Bring a bike and go to ALDI which is just 2 km away from the Totem.
