Except for accomodation that is much more expensive in Madrid than in Montreal, price levels are vitually the same. The increase in my expenses was due to that I travelled and went out much more often.

When you travel in Spain, take buses instead of trains, they are cheaper. The metro in Madrid is also very cheap.

I would recommend finding an apartment by yourself if possible, since it is often much cheaper. But always be observant so you do not get fooled..
