I wish I had known...
I wish I had known the city a little better before renting out an apartment. Everything in Madrid is very close and some areas offer much cheaper housing.

When looking for "alojamiento", do not be afraid to take the metro and live a little further away that the Argüelles/Moncloa zone.

They try their best, but the market situation in Madrid is very difficult. (there is a much higher demand than offer) so that the university can hardly do anything. They just can count on the help of other students.

Academic
Course recommendations
ICADE is VERY VERY different from an american university. Courses are more straight lecture and less interactive between students and professors. I've found professors extremely less accesible due to the fact that most of mine were still full time professionals and have little to no time outside of class to work with students.

Personal comments
Classes in ICADE are taught in a manner that I am not very comfortable with. Most work does not come till the very end of the year and I you find yourself scrambling to remember everything that was thrown at you over the semester. Textbooks are just about non existent so when you don't understand something there is little to no material to try and read or review. I find I learn better when there are more assignments throughout the course and a text book or some other material to reference for refreshing the memory or using as additional help with the class. The lack of those materials and continuing course work remains my main qualm about ICADE.

Travelling in Spain isn't expensive. Buses companies are cheaper than trains' ones and Barcelona for example is well connected to Madrid in bus. Spanish people are very open-minded and have a wonderful culture which they love to talk about , so listen to them!

You have your personal freedom, can choose where you want to live (city center or rather near your university) - and if you want to stay in contact with people from the campus, you can visit them whenever you want to.
