Housing for international students provided by the university is most of the times more expensive than for locals. There are appartments called "WG" shared by students which can result cheaper and a very gratifying experience.

travel by train is much expensivier in Germany than in Italy. Nightlife has a lot of possibilities to offer and can be cheap, but if you go downtown clubs and bars are rather expensive

The facilities were quite basic but the communal ones were cleaned daily monday to friday. The rooms were a fair size and in a good location for the University and trams into the city centre.

I went to the Heinrich Heine Universität in Düsseldorf to take the intensive German course. I couldn't help speaking English with my friends, but sometimes they were hard on me forcing me to speak German. This was vey helpful. I think the best way to learn a language, better than taking a class, is to talk, listen to the TV, Radio, reading books and interact with the language, classes are not as helpful.
