Food was cheaper, I barely used the phone (we had a cell-phone that was provided by the landlord for everyone in the house and it had a card, when the card expired, we could still receive call, I bought phone cards from time to time in case I needed to call friends or family.

Shop at no-brand grocery stores (I had one next to my appartment) and you'll save a lot. More money for partying *lol* I didn't find that second-hand text books were easily available so... that's going to be a big chunk of your monthly budget when you have to buy them.
