I will name a few events worth participating, but I can forget some: 1. Ice Sculpture Competition held each January; 2. Trip to Lapland, where one can see the northern lights, visit the village of Santa Claus in Rovaniemi and Ice Castle in Kemi; 3. Get together weekend - 2-day trip to the town near Helsinki for all exchange students organized by the host university with parties, free sauna and activities on a fresh air; 4. Trips to Nuuksio National Park (both in winter and summer); 5. Olimpic Games - annual sport competition organized by the university; 6. Many, many birthday parties :) 7. Trips to Tallinn, Stockholm and St. Petersburg; 8. Vappu festival - annual students' festivity held in May when everybody in Helsinki go on a street and have fun; 9. Skijumping competition in Lahti; 10. Ice skating possible in almost each part of a city.

Academic
Course recommendations
Each course I took part in was valuable, the level of English among teachers and students was excellent. My favourite course was Statistical Methods - it was really well taught (we had also computer classes), what is not common in Poland when it comes to courses connected with math. The good way of collecting credit points is participation in "Intensive Courses" which usually continue for 3-5 days and end up with an exam or writing an essay. It gives a chance to collect necessary points in only a couple of days.

Personal comments
I think that the classes were too long, as some of them went on for 3-4 hours - it is difficult to concentrate such a long time on one subject and teachers very often finished earlier.

Overall
Haaga Helia is a great polytechnic, there is a wide variety of courses and a buzzing multicultural environment.
Students are quite independent when choosing  their path and there are endless possibilities for extracurricular activities.
The teachers are not the most inspiring and some classes are very dull and basic, but that's due the fact that it's not a university.

Personal spending habits
Finland has a cost of life much more expensive than Portugal. Another point is the way they manage the pubs and bars, because people are obliget to pay arround 10€ to get into the pubs and also onligated to pay plus 2€ to leave the jacket on the closet...not even mentioning that then people will consume some beverage which rises the price of the nightlife.

Personal comments
It was suppose I have internet since the first day because it make part of the rent, still they took 1 month and half to solve my situation and the housing responsibles (HOAS) and the internet company (Sonera) couldn't understand each other, moreover they lay all the time throw that period saying that in the follow day or week my internet connection would be established and I had to call every single day, at least twice per day remembering them about their fault and that the contract I signed mentioned internet facilities. So, I spend arround 600€ in mobil phone calling to my country in order to talk with my family and with my university. Besides that it was a waiste of time that i couldnt make internet research at home or advance my assignments, so I also spent more money travelling t go to the university. Surprising isn't it?!
