I have been lucky to leave with anglophone students, though many french students in exchenge program remain with the francophone communityand do not improve their english. I did it pretty well.

I was able to use both French and English. University was offering courses in English, French and Spanish. I took all my courses in French and used French in everyday life in the host city

a lot of english was spoken, which is good if you are shy, as it helps put you at ease, but everything is done in french, which is good for language proficiency
