Swedes are very capable of speaking English. Actually, i've taken a Swedish course in Falun (Sweden) before moving to Halmstad. Later, i've tried to practice my Swedish but i have never come across such a situation in which i had to use my Swedish. Whenever you have difficulty speaking Swedish, you can speak English and Swedes will perfectly understand you. This may sound great BUT you can not practice Swedish even in Sweden!!!

When I arrived in Halmstad University, I did not know whether I would learn Swedish or not, I chose to do so and I haven't been disappointed, on the contrary ! I liked it so much that I continued when back to France : I applied for Swedish lessons in the Swedish Culture centre in Paris!

As everyone in Sweden speaks English and many also German, you don't need to speak Swedish; even if you start talking Swedish, you'll soon end up in English; so only slight improvements of my Swedish; would have learned here more, as the Swedish-course in Halmstad started with 0

Swedish was the local language. Though almost the entire population speak english fluently. So I did not have any problems most of the time. Though rarely situations occured where I needed to communicate in Swedish, which I found a bit difficult.

swedish people have a really good englsih, this means that it is hard to get motivated to speak swedish if you stay for a short term but this means that it is quite good to improve your englsih.

It was no problem to communicate with everybody. All the people are able to speak English and after the Swedish course I was able to speak some basic phrases and the people liked my efforts.
