At the beginning I was scared by the difficulty I had understanding other students because of speed and slang. On the other hand, I didn't hav any problem to understand teachers but was slow for my reading assignments.
Having an American roommate helped me a lot to adapt and interact with other American students and also in everyday life.

the English you speak in the USa is so much different than the one you leanr at school in France that is was first quite difficult to understand the laguage of the "youngs" but it got easier and easier little by little, by the simple fact of talking with people using their everyday language

At the end of my semester at Georgetown I had no difficulty in yunderstanding jokes and colloquial expression of my American friends. It improved my listening comprehension and the fluency in writing essays and reports.

In the USA they speak American... Obvious isn't it?! You are likely to meet people from all over the world though! Getting used to different accents may require some special effort!
