At the beginning it is very difficult to start to talk to other people and it is easier for everyone to talk in English, as everybody can talk in this language.
But little by little you become more confident and you understand that it is normal to make mistakes in a language that yo don´t know well (German in my case). Sometimes by making these mistakes is when you learn more...

I'm still impressed.I did'n know good german and german is really hard.My Erasmus language course was useful.Then my social life was naturally really important.Better as thousand language-courses.I could'nt speak (and understand!) such a good german without my experience.

It was fine, I could go shopping, I could talk with more people, basically german ( I tried not to talk in other languages, just to learn german ).

I did not have problems, because i have studied german for many years, but there are people, who have improved their german level very fast.

Learning the langauge was the best thing about exchange! Full emersion into a foreign language is very difficult at first, but rewarding later.
