In the university it wasn´t so hard because most of the teachers had a good english. Outside the academic environment communicating was quite complicate but with time and the help and patience of the turkish it is possible after some months to acquire everyday knowledge.

In Izmir it is quite important to learn at least some Turkish, both to understand the society better and also simply to survive
