I knew some spanish before coming to Barcelona but it had been 6 years since I had used to so obviously needed some brushing up! Whilst I had no problems communicating one on one, I had a few problems at first in understanding lectures in Spanish.

HousingType of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I rented two apartments during my studies at ESADE. One was through Habit Servei which was very poor conditions. Very dirty, far, and with problems with the facilities (such as hot water). This houseing agancy was very reluctant and slow to send repair men to fix the necessities. The second apartment was through Blau Housing. The apartment was one of the nicest I have seen for exchange students and resonably priced. The location (accorss from the el Corte Ingles at Maria Christina) coule not have been more convenient to attend ESADE and still have close access to the metro, shopping, etc.

They were very unhelpfull. I recommend tringto arrange something form your home country because a large number of students arrived without appartments and few appartments were available. Having said that it is unadvisable to aggree to an apartment without having seen it first as the quality can vary dramatically.

There is a great service on the intranet at ESADE where you have the possibilty to put up your add and announce that you are looking for a place to live. My recommendation is to do this but to have a place to live at least one month becouse the spanish students won´t be looking at the electronic bullitn board until the end of January. If you don´t have a place to stay for free for a whole month i recomend taking contact with some housing agency from home.
