Be aware of the taxes. If you intend to have a TV or rent a space for over 1 yr; there are taxes assessed to these. Also medical expenses are of prime importance.

Check out the neighborhood around metro stop Odeon. I frequented le Mazet, Bar Three, and Taverne de Nesle, all friendly places for foreigners.

The University is situated in the 7th arrondisement where there are many Americans. Local business depend upon the university students to pay outrageous prices (ie 6 Euros for an ESPRESSO!!!)
