Do travel a lot, Southern Africa is really beautiful! Be sure to watch out for crime and theft, but DON'T become paranoid neither!! Most importantly, enjoy!!

Don't just stay in Jo'burg, travel around, visit the Kruger and other parks, hang out on the beaches in Durban, Plett, J'bay and Capetown. Learn to Surf !

Overall
University of the Witwatersrand is arguably the best tertiary institution in Africa. The Engineering department have some of the most qualified researchers and lecturers on the continent. The resources and facilities at the university are world class.

My course was excellent. It was very well structured with a good group of people. It encouraged creating work placed like environments and being a post graduate course most of the people were very like minded.

Personal comments
South Africa has 11 Official languages. I can speak english and understand Afrikaans, as well as speak it a little. The other languages like Zulu, Xhosa etc. are to difficult for a guy like me.

Be sure to check out the club and pub district in Sandton, the student district near Rand Afrikaanse Universiteit in Melville, and the raggaclubs downtown (don't go there without locals though)
