Housing
Type of housing: Hall of Residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
In a hall it is hard to get contact with English students. It would be better to stay with a family and to experience the everyday life there.

Some of the facilities were pretty old. The staff was nice and made it easier for me to stay in Sheffield.

This gives you a certain freedom (i.e. you are self-catering and selv-reliant). Additionally, as you share a house with other students, it adds a social dimension to the whole experience. As for me, I'm still in touch with my former, international room-mates. So, living in a house with other exchange students definitely helps building a lasting network.

I was impressed by how organised the allocation of housing was, considered the fact that the University has thousands of exchange students each semester. I'm grateful that the University (or more specifically, the Students' Union) stood for the allocation process- personally, I don't think that I could have found a better place by searching on my own.

The accommodation was well-organised, sufficient for almost all of the students, a bit expensive compared to my home country.

it is more comfortable to live in a self-catering flat or house with some other people than to stay in a hall of residence that has fixed times for meals and strict rules about visitors etc.. living is more relaxed and less controlled.

accommodation was organised very well and the flats were in general very tidy and comfortable. also, they were located within walking distance of the university and the city centre, which was nice. the rent level was slightly higher than i would've wanted but that was expected.
