If you want to go to a big city in Britain, and this is your only choice, go for it, but you could do better.

Salford is a bit of a rough neighbourhood, but if you're careful, you'll be allright. Manchester is within walking distance, and is bustling with life, though a bit depressive in the way it looks. Check for Ryanair specials, and you might be flying to Dublin and back for £25.

All of the international students found Britain expensive, though for a Finn, the difference is not huge. If you buy big shop chains' Value products, you may get very cheap food, if you don't mind the fact that Britons put sugar in everything. There's plenty to see in Britain & Ireland, and especially train travel is expensive.

University bedding pack costs £30, so better ask the frindly international helpers to take you to a shop the first day (or take a taxi) to get your duvet & stuff.

Many people have accents in their English foreign students are not used to, but you get used to it after a while.

Pourquoi?

Though the standard of housing was not good, university accommodation is the easiest choice, and OK. Going with a friend or two I'd definately try to find a place with them (outside Salford, not a nice area).

Sharing a house with 10-11 other people, depends on luck and the kind of person you are whether you enjoy it or not. Flat outside Castle Irwell perhaps the wisest choise, though not cheapest. Horlock Court the best location (on main campus).

Best thing about the nightlife in Salford is that you can quickly and easily get to Manchester, where there's plenty to do. Rent a car and go to Scotland and/or the lake district, It's well worth it!
