Course recommendations
If you are not mathematically inclined -stay away from Econometrics, I struggled! Otherwise, courses were comparable to those in Britain, although there was far less essay writing, and multiple choice sections in the exams (a rare treat in the UK!) Classes were far smaller, so there was far more student interaction which made the topics more interesting and it easier to get to know other students and to form study and social groups with them.

Personal comments
I felt that the lack of essay writing left me a bit behind when I came back to the UK and was faced with writing a 12,000 word dissertation! Because it hadn't been required of me in the US, my researching and report writing skills were not quite as sharp as they might have been with a bit more practice.

Overall
University of North Carolina at Greensboro offers degrees for various subjects. UNCG offers a good Finance program online. This allows me to travel and work while I finish my degree. The tuition is relatively low compared to most American universities as well.

Personal spending habits
I spent less on food and accommodation because compared to the UK, these were relatively cheaper in the US, I spent more on the telephone due to the long-distance calls to friends and family back home. I spent a lot more money on travel as I wanted to make the most of evey travel opportunity that was available to me while I was there.

Personal comments
Clothes, electrical goods and food were a lot less expensive in the US - buy things that you need when you get there rather than before. Also, although internal flights in the US are quite cheap, as is petrol if you are driving, don't underestimate expenses at your destination, I found that there was no such thing as a cheap weekend break!

I joined the frisbee team, which was amazing as I got to travel to tournaments all around the East Coast! Greene Street is a good club downtown, along with N Club. And for ountry/westen Arizona Pete's is fun! For spring break, the High Tide Frisbee tournament is awesome!

Personal comments
Although the rooms were small for two people, the accommodation I stayed in was convenient, clean, reasonably priced and I was very lucky to be surrounded by friendly, wecoming people whom I quickly befriended. I would advise anyone else to stay in a dorm on campus too.

The native language in North Carolina is English, as it is in Glasgow. Therefore I found it very easy to communicate with the other students! The students that came from non-English speaking countries had to have basic undestanding to study at UNCG.
