Personal comments
Iowa City is a laid back liberal town. If you get there in time for the outdoor jazz festivaland cinema nights do not miss them. The bar street,or streets! was a welcoming atmosphere for allstudents. There are lots of coffee houses to go during the day and the food is second to none in price and quality.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Mayflower Hall had amazing facilities, a 24hour computer centre right outside your door and a picnic, bbq and skate park right on the river across the road.

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I have studied English (combined with international studies) so English as a language of instruction was not really new to me. I did not really experience any difficulties at any point, but my stay in the US did of course further improve my skills in speech as well as in writing.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Having lived in my own apartment prior to my semester abroad, it was a bit hard for me getting used to sharing my living space with someone else like you will often do in an American dormitory.

Personal comments
Besides of me being older than most other students in the residence hall and the fact that I was used to living by myself it was actually Ok.
