Since it´s so close to Chicago, you have to drive there as often as possible; the quad is the center of attention and definitely let´s you meet tons of people;

there are too much, but I recommend weekend trips to chicago, st. louis, springfield, in general travel a lot!

We bought a car and made roadtrips over the weekends. Starting on Thursday evening until Monday morning. We went to New York, Washington D.C. and Chicago.

Must see: LAs Vegas, New York and Miami (during Spring break or Thanksgiving Holidays)
...and: you can buy everything you need at WALMART
Don´t miss the concerts on campus !(f.e.Foo Fighters,Fall term 2005!)

There are a lot of opportunities to travel. Best offers can be found under www.hotwire.com, www.priceline.com and www.travelocity.com. Chicago is a wonderful city where you can do a lot of shopping and visit beautiful sights.
