There are several really cool pubs and clubs in Edmonton.
On Campus: RATT (karoke on wednesday, really cool and much fun)
Hudsons (on campus): nice pub, irish atmosphere, every day a special (cheap food or beer, highballs)
Iron Horse (side street of Whyte Ave): dance club, cool

To live on campus is perfect, especially if you don't have a car. In winter waiting for the bus at -40°C is not funny! From I-House it took me 5 min to the campus center!

In the beginning I had some troubles with understanding, but in the end, that was not a problem at all. It is not a shame if you have to ask several times if you don't understand something. They know it is not your first language and they are willing to help you!

I wanted to try and experience everything new and travel as much as possible. Also I got used to the local lifestyle which was more 'eating out orientated' than the one in Finland.

I think my knowledge in English was pretty good before the exchange year as I was used to having lectures in English at my home university as well. I think I improved most at conversational skills, coping better slang etc. after the year.
