Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
It is the best place yo meet new people from the start. Especially all Erasmus people come together here. I got the chance to meet some "local" norwegian students aswell!

They offer pretty good and reasonable priced housing, at 5 km from University. The accomodation is old but practical and has a nice atmosphere to it from the 70's!

Overall
I wish I had known...
Bergen is very isolated, so travel in and out of it is more time consuming and/or expensive. Ski trails up at Geilo/Voss are free, so take advantage!!!!!!!

Final comments
The trains often have "green departures" which means that they are half price. The Turforlag (or something to that nature) has great hiking maps of the area. The cheapest way to fly is to go to the airport and buy a "sjansebillet" which is on a space available basis, but there is always space! Do not try to continue your habits of eating out all the time, it will get you fat and cost you too much money, try to eat like a Weegie (Norwegian) make open-faced sandwiches to bring to school. Buy a bike if you'll be at Fantoft, it'll save you 570 NOK a month!!!! Check for the police aucitons, they have the cheapest bikes in town. Get your but out and explore some of the great hills surrounding Bergen, they all have trails and offer the best views around. Don't just do Floyen once, go up every month, walk both ways if you can.

it was located outsiede the city which was a disadvantage and mostly exchange students lived there-so not many opportunities to meet Norwegians...the rest was almost perfect, next to the gym and lovely nature!!!

You should definitely go to USF(old sardine factory) where they have many concerts and cultural events! If you like more hardrock music, then the famous "Hullen" bar in a cave(!) is the place for you! Many other cozy places to go to (Cafe Vögen, next to it you have Mr Bean coffee house,...)

the rooms at fantoft are quite small and the buildings are old, there is grafities in the elevator but on the other hand it is also good to have free access to internet and tv cable, also I save money in rent
