You want to travel as much as possible in the surrounding areas of Bardeaux, go to some of the wineries and educate yourself since that specific university doesn't do a super job. You want to avoid the station area by night wich is full of strange people and sexshops.

Attend many language exchanges, as you will meet many people from all over the world ! Also visit places such as St. Emilion and Arcachon and book the train tickets earlier as they will be very cheap. Also do not be afraid to speak the language, you will make mistakes, it is normal but it is the only way to improve.

The educational system in France is MUCH different than what I am used to (as an american) and I found their style and technique of teaching and learning very disappointing.

Check out the culture and have a taste of it before you choose to study in this country. It is great for some and not at all for others. East coasters may love the french culture than those from the west coast who are more influenced by the latin and spanish speaking culture. If you are looking for a study abroad program in Europe, try Spain or Italy. (And I highly DISrecommend the University of California´s study abroad program- at least the one in France- It is not very well organized nor very helpful).

Accommodation at the university in BX III is alright, it is easy to meet other students, not too expensive, but too far away from the city center (7 km)
