Slightly difficult at the beginning as most French people i met wanted to speak English, and when you don't speak much French it's easy to let them.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits
Spent more on travel as there were more places to visit, more opportunities same on nightlife, although drinks are more expensive i didn't bother going to proper clubs too much so no entrance charges food- more eating out as it's less expensive than at home, and also no cheap brands like at home.

CAF - housing benefit, difficult to deal with the actual administration, but worth it. Beware Bank charges for going overdrawn, they happen at the endof the month not when the accidental overdraft occurred. Don't let your landlord keep your deposit ( S Peltat )

I wish I had known...
astronomical phone bills If you're from the Isle of Man you can't get an E128 or E111 so have to get private insurance or pay the securite sociale, do this after you arrive in France not before.

Personal recommendation
Sciences Po is quite prestigious in France, so when you tell people what they do they look a lot more impressed than english people would, so it's worth it for that. IEP 'campus' is fairly central, especially near if you're in somewhere like residence Benjamin Dellessert Most staff helpful but very busy, you have to chase them up to talk to them Quite well organised for foreign students, so i would recommend it but check out other options as well. ( I actually had no choice in my placement)

Get a Carte 12-25 for 50% off on the trains, buy a pass for the TCL, includes metro and bus, about 200FF for a month, and buy it at the start of the month, makes public transport lots cheaper if you use it a lot. Be very aware when walking around at night, try not to be on your own, avoid talking to strangers - OK OK the usual stuff but lots of people i knew had problems with muggings, being followed, being groped in the street, or just general unprovoked aggression.

Personal comments
I didn't really like the look of the halls of residence, however, university accommodation was probably a better way to meet people, not a lot of French people though.
