As I came to Germany I was already speaking good German (1 year high school exchange programme), but after 2 semesters of studying and living in Germany I improved my German to a very fluent level. An Erasmus exchange year is also a multicultural experience as you also communicate with other students from Europe.

German students don't know how to speak clearly and slowly when they're talking to a foreigner who has just arrived: you should improve your comprehension really fast!
