Personal comments
The Portuguese language is very difficult to learn for people without a roman native language. Most of the portuguese (especially young people) speak english pretty good. That was easy for important things at university. But in every day life, like shopping, i tried to use portuguese to learn the language faster.

“FEUP stay along 10 years”

Overall
Im my long 10 years on FEUP i was able to learn 5 fields of mechanical engenniring. The adjust of the arregment of the course on 2012 made the course much more dificult and exigent. Althought that i think that dificulty makes FEUP the number one school on Portugal for mechanical engenniring.

-sometimes inadequate/old methods of teaching;

My advice for those without a grant, a scholarship, etc. is to try to get a job before coming here. Otherwise, it is quite difficult to find a job here to finance their studies.
