Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The apartments arranged included everything a student needs, so there is no need to change.

Personal comments
The campus is really poor housing. You have to share your 7m2 room with someone else and the bathroom with 20 others living at that floor. You do not lay on a mtras but on a sort of wooden shelve. But the apartments that the school arranges are pretty good. Its clean, spacious and everyone has his/her own bedroom and sometimes even their own bathroom.

I wish I had known...
Macau is so small and crowdy (0.4M local residences and 16M tourists in 27km2 tiny place) Few people can speak Portuguese. Although the city is famous in Gaming industry, local social culture is against on gaming

Course recommendations
I was a bit disappointed by the business courses. Instead I took 2 courses at the Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty. Those I enjoyed very much and I learnt a lot about the PRC there!

A bit more structure in there might be helpful. The hardest work had to be done in the end, could have been organized better.

Overall level of english is lower than in the Netherlands. At university I have not experienced any problems besides explaining myself more than once towards local students. Concerning local people in shops or restaurants: learn cantonees a.s.a.p. I have not experienced any problems in government institutions.

It is perfect for traveling since Macau is situated in the middle of south east Asia. For academic reasons I wouldn't want to go there.

When you are staying in Macau travel as much as you can. There is so much that South East Asia has to offer, it is incredible.

the exchange program in that university was OK, but the fact, I was in Macau, where there are low cost flight, it makes easier and much less to travel through the south east asia. macau, not far from Hong Kong, very close (by air) to the others countries of south east asia, and common border to china, helps to travel easily, cheaper and get an overview on the different culture.
