The jump from studying the language to living the language was huge. Even though I have a spanish A level I would have been lost without attending two intensive courses, one in the summer beforehand and the other in the first few weeks of term. Making the effort to avoid speaking English and "ERASMUS spanish" helped me improve a great deal.

Having studied Spanish during my undergraduate degree, I had good written skills prior to my year in Spain. I had however a lesser level of oral competency, which my year in Spain allowed me to raise to the level of fluency. Although this was sometimes a challenging experience it was thoroughly worthwhile, both socially and academically.

The Casco Viejo is a must for anyone who is in Zaragoza at the weekend. Everything gets going around 12 midnight and the party continues right through the night and the small intimate streets are heaving with revellers. El Picadillo, a tapas bar, is one of the best of its kind in the city which calls itself the tapas capital of Spain.
