Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It was an excellent experience living with a family of a completly different culture to what I had known, however next time I would like to live not in a place where I felt I had to check into if I was not coming home for dinner

my senora was wonderful. The food and the facilities were just fine. I am very glad I can now say that I have lived with a host family.

living away from the university in moncloa, i could easily walk or jog down to the buses to go to school (15 minute walk). I would suggest this area if you are just coming to Madrid as a good place to start living at least for a few months.

It was almost imposible to find housing through university. Everyone had an option to choose the student resident, but it costes about 600 euros!! So the double price. I don`t know anyone who would live on the campus.

the university does offer accommodation but it is quite disorganised, there are no discriptions of the various types of accommodation in the brochures so it is difficult to get a good idea of what is on offer

Living with my senora was an amazing experience. I got home cooking and a real homey feel. She showed interest in me and helped me to feel comfortable in my times of confusion or frustration. She taught me what it was really like to live in Madrid. Of course, there were occasional barriers between us, but ultimately, it was great to have to use my language skills to work out even the most minor problems.

Going in the fall is especially exciting because we were able to live in one of the residencias (dorms) for the first two weeks before we got our home stays. This gave us the chance to get to know the SPanish students as well as form a tight bond with the rest of the Americans. We were able to practice our Spanish together, explore the city, walk to class together...just help each other out in those first few difficult weeks.

I was not offeres any help to find accomodation on arriving. Before going there I registered for a programme of the universtiy to find accomodation. After registration I did never hear anything again. Both rather disappointing.
