Why?
Living with my senora was an amazing experience. I got home cooking and a real homey feel. She showed interest in me and helped me to feel comfortable in my times of confusion or frustration. She taught me what it was really like to live in Madrid. Of course, there were occasional barriers between us, but ultimately, it was great to have to use my language skills to work out even the most minor problems.

Personal comments
Going in the fall is especially exciting because we were able to live in one of the residencias (dorms) for the first two weeks before we got our home stays. This gave us the chance to get to know the SPanish students as well as form a tight bond with the rest of the Americans. We were able to practice our Spanish together, explore the city, walk to class together...just help each other out in those first few difficult weeks.

He de aclarar que no estudié en el campus de Ciudad Universitaria, sino en la facultad del campus de Aranjuez, el cual se encontraba en situación de impago a consecuencia de malas decisiones tomadas desde el poder político.
Por este motivo, disponíamos de malas e insuficientes instalaciones, pero pudimos compensarlo al tener acceso a las instalaciones y material del campus Ciudad Universitaria y a un gran elenco de profesores.
El campus de Aranjuez acabó siendo vendido a la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
Mi valoración es positiva en cuanto al cuerpo docente. Pero negativa respecto de las instalaciones, aun que la responsabilidad recae en el poder civil, no en el rectorado.
Recomiendo este grado a quien quiera dedicarse al mundo académico o periodístico, documental, etc. En caso de querer dedicarse a la ficción, recomiendo cursar un ciclo de audiovisuales como complemento, o matricularse en una escuela de cine a quien disponga del poder adquisitivo necesario.

Personal comments
I did not see university housing as I rented an apartment independently. It was enjoyable although I rented with 2 English girls from my home university so I didn't get to practice very much Spanish at home! However, we were the only English people in the area and there we experienced typical Spanish life in respect to the local bars, shops and other facilities.

Why?
Although I had the opportunity to live with a very nice woman who refrained from imposing strict rules upon the constituents of the household, I felt as if I did not have a substantial amount of personal space, which in some cases created a conflict because her motherly instincts took over where my independence began. Living in an apartment/house would also allow me to eat the food that I prefer as well as accomodate guests in a fashion that would suit me.
