Personal comments
Don't shop at Corte Ingles. It is tempting to do so when you first arrive in Madrid because you don't know where to find things and it is convenient, but the prices are way too high. Be patient until you find those things somewhere else.

I went to Spain after 2 years of learning spanish, so my level was itnermediate. In the beginning I was really hapy when understanding 75 % of classes. But one lears really fast - by wtching tv, by speaking with spanish people, by participating in classes. After 2 months I undesrtood almost everything and didn`t have any bigger problem with communication. I think that studing abroad is the best way to learn the foreign language!

I think I improved, but I still think I should have become more fluent. But that is partially my fault for lack of getting more involved. Plus, the Spanish is Spain is a little more difficult to learn than other regions of Latin America.
