¿Por qué?
it is cheap to live in merida. a furnished apartment costs about the same as a room with a family. however, it is a really good experience to live with a family the first time.

My experiance woth my family was very good. The cost is the only thing that is a little unreasonable. It is also difficult to adapt to having to answer to someoene after living alone for 5 years, but I have learned more from them than anyone else. For this, I would say that a family is a good option.

Recomendación personal
They are very friendly and it is a great place to study if you get involved. THey are quite relaxed though and don't expect them to chase you up about assignments/projects it is up to you to discipline yourself.

I would receommend settling in for a month and then take the bus to San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas to visit the town and also Palenque an ancient ruin which is breathtaking in the very early morning light this was personal highlight of my year abroad.

The discos are always fun- Tequila, Amarantus, Mambo Cafe... The Zocalo is also fun when you first arrive. Merida is growing very very quickly, and new restaurants are cropping up every month. One thing we did do a lot of was sneak into the Hyatt Hotel swimming pool for free. The hotel never said anything. The UADY Faculties always arrange lots of parties throughout the year, most are keg parties, but they can be fun.

There are great discos here. Mambo Cafe and Ay CAray are two places that are al ot of fun. in the centro there is a grat cafe called havana caffe that is wonderful. Its easy to go to the beach town of Progreso thats 30 minutes from Merida. A round trip costs about 2 dollars. Merida is filled with things to do. Every weekned in the centro there is dancing in the streets. This is a beautiful place that embraces its culture and likes to have fun.

It is cheaper tos tay with a family and pay for everything inclusivelly rather than go it alone in a house share. However it is more fun to be with other students. My only real over expenditure was buying trinkets and hammocks, which you cannot use at home. If you keep that under control you will find it hard to overspend in Mexico.

It was a very safe way to be initiated into Mexican culture. It was convenient to go straight to live with a family and not have to find a place of my own. Meals were cooked for me , which was a treat and I got the chance to do yoga as my host was a yoga teacher.
