I wish I had known...
if i had known before hand that we weren't to have any heating in our apartement, i would have brought with me a few extra blankets and woolsocks. even though the image of spain is sunny and hot, in november and december you might not want to go to the beach anymore. at least to swim in the sea, that is.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Living on campus has its good sides but if I were to go back to Barcelona I would certainly want to try out living in the centre of the city.

If you come to study in Barcelona, make sure your studies are in Spanish or be ready to start learning Catalan! Try to spend as much people with locals, to get to know them, and you can use the local students NGOs for that!

Brush up on your language skills before going. I hadn't spoken Spanish in nearly 3 years and then I had to sit in 2 hour lectures in Spanish. Check what classes are in Catalan as it is the official first language of the University.

Try and organise accommodation before arriving there. Live with other Spanish people not just with all your co-travellers. Mix and mingle. Live in the city to make socialising easier, because the university is a long train journey from Barcelona city center and some of the university accommodation is there, and it is too far away, you end up spending all your time in the center.

Course recommendations
before you choose your courses, be sure to ask if they will be in spanish or in catalan. in many cases, the same course might be offered in the morning in catalan and in the afternoon in spanish.
