I wish I had known...
How the city loked like !!! Hermosillo is awful !!! It is in the middle of the desert and the temperature is around 45 6 months of the year from march to september... Don not expect to find typical mexican villages here, Mexico is not here, Hermosillo is 400 kilometres from the USA. ID you want to discover Mexico, go more in the south : Guadalajara, Oaxaca....

Do not expect to find typical Mexico here. Hermosillo has a lot of american influence. It is an awful city although the people here are really open minded, helpful, friendly... Come here with money to be able to travel to the US, and to the south of Mexico. But do not come here to study, the University levels are really bad...

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It would be interesting to see how real life within a familiy takes place, but since I found some real good friends over there and they regularely took me home with them, I already got some impressions of how they live together. Furthermore there is no chance to live on a campus, because it doesn't exist. All of the students stay with their families until they graduate.

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
As I am in the same house as the two other french students in exchange with me, I will definitely choose to live in a family if I have to come back because it is better to improve in the foreign language.

If you there in the spring spend your spring break/semana santa holiday either in San Carlos (mexican party a huevoo!!) or Puerto Peñasco (where also a lot of gringos are). Furthermore, upon completing your semester, travel!!! Take the bus (use your student card which grants you a 50% discount) and go to Mazatlan, Tepic, Guadalajara, Morelia and get to know Mexico City which is a world on itself!! Sit on the zocolo and see life happening. Visit Estadio Azteco for a soccer match between America and well whoever. If you time and money see if you can go to the southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. They are so different than the rest of the country and absolutely beautifull. All can be done perfectly by bus, no problems taking along your board or all that luggage. Best place: Mazunte close to Puerto Escondido. Stay at the isla! and chill out!!!

it is a university for commuters and it is not easy to get to know people if you already know english because, the easiest way to meet people is when you attend the English for foreigners program.

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before:
My level after:
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
It was kind of hard at the beginning, because at school you learn the tipical Spanish, but when you come to Mexico, ou see, that there are differences between their "castellano" and the Spanish.
