To be honest...I could speak the language of instruction better than most of my professors. I was quite disappointed to hear that most of the teachers have great problems with English although Hong Kong used to be a British Colony. I can say this on behalf of most of the international students.

Housing
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
You have more freedom living in a house, opposed to on campus. You can invite whoever you wish home, have friends over, enjoy a bottle of wine.

Housing was satisfactory, in that the rates were cheap. However one must keep in mind that this is Hong Kong, and that you pay a lot for not a lot.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Personal savings<br> A private grant
Work opportunities:
I worked, but it was illegal/cash in hand work
Personal spending habits
Cooking possiblities in the halls are not great. Therefore, you always go out and eat. Even small restaurants become expensive on a regular basis. The cantines of the university might be cheap, but you do get fed up with them quite quickly. Prices whether it is alcohol or food....everything is just more exepensive except for electronics.

Get used to the fact that you will not buy any milk products...they are very expensive. Go out less but spend more then. Stop smoking!

crooked "hall cultures"
LEROY S

Overall
their residential colleges are run by a bunch of immature undergraduates who have absolute power over who to admit into the dormitories, mostly based off the applicant's looks or schools they attended. rampant ragging and "seniority" in most of the residential halls, and they value your "contribution" over your actual needs so doesn't matter how far you live you won't be admitted because they're a bunch of bozos
