the best spots? hummm... i think mike's place at the beach in hayarkon an amazing blues club, the pub in hayarkon 55, resembles european style pubs, very authentic and great music n atmosphere, owned by a swedish amazingly nice woman. the cafe bar giora in front of dizengoff center, excellent food and nice atmosphere with a gorgeous pub underground. and the fidel cafe in the 3rd floor of the castro fashion store, has a wonderful design, absolutely pooshy and fashionable with very very reasonable prices, it's fantastic. and best disco? i think lilinblum 25, it had 4 different scenes, the best music, great drinks, all sort of alternative styles but if u mind the gay thing better don't go

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Although the dorms are really outdated and disgusting, they are the best choice. I lived in Einstein and it literally took no more than 5 seconds to get to the main entrance of the university! At first, I was stuck with weird American roomates even though I originally asked to be placed with Israeli or other foreign students. The housing office through the exchange office and Israeli office were very accommadating in helping me find vacancies in other rooms and I was able to then find an apartment with three other Israeli roommates who turned out to be awesome! The dorms are a real social place and I don't know how I would found my friends if I hadn't lived there.

Personal recommendation
It's highly, highly recommended. The campus is amazing. Weather is beautiful. Very close to the beach. All of the overseas students were very close. Tel Aviv is such a fun city. I have not a bad thing to say. Best six months of my life. I met my husband there too!

I've been back twice since I left, both times during the current intifada. While it was riskier, as long as you take some precautions such as avoiding buses (taxis are cheap there), Tel Aviv is still such a wonderful place.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Personal savings
Work opportunities:
I worked, but it was illegal/cash in hand work
Personal spending habits
I spent more on food because the kitchen wasn't equipped for cooking much. There was no oven, just a stove, so we ate out alot. I spent more on the telephone for obvious reasons, although it was very inexpensive to call the US. The drinks and cover charges can be pricey, but worth it. I traveled all of the country and Europe during my stay, so that was a substantial cost. It's also easy to spend alot because the mall is down the block.
