The dollar/ruble exchange was great! Nightlife seemed to be on par with most European cities, but outside of clubs beer was much less expensive.

travel! it's so cheap even to go abroad if you take the bus (train is not expensive either). health: you should go to an international hospital and be insured.

It was typical college dorm living, but in Russia. It is not America and they have a different set of rules. Some students couldn't figure this out.

english was the common language, because most of the exchange students were not able to speak russian - negative for me. but in use of the local language in restaurants, transport... i improved.

Russian is difficult to learn and more difficult to use. Russians speak very fast and expect everyone to speak Russian. Hardly noone outside the main tourist areas speaks English.
