I wish I had known...
Yes, I wish I had know nobody from my host university was going to aware of my arrival. Whose fault? Both my home and host universities, I imagine...

Take the chance to travel to European capitals, it´s just one night trip. Go out as much as you can and mingle up with everyone, having fun is also a good way to achieve your objectives.

Personal spending habits
Everything is more expensive in England that in my home country. And everything is more expensive in London than in the rest of England! As for travelling, London is very well positioned if you want to travel to Europe (Belgium, France, Holland, Germany, Scotland, etc) so it´s difficult not to be tented!

Well, I didn´t get a debit card, the bank just issued a savings card for me, so I couldn´t use it to pay, just to get money at ATMs... Cost-saving tip: walking from the campus to central London only takes half an hour, so it´s a nice walk when it´s sunny and you can spare the tube

Academic
Course recommendations
It entirely depends on your degree, but if you do European Studies at the faculty of Social Science, go for any subject taught by Prof. Rojas! He's an excellent economist.

If you're an exchange student, don´t spend too long on your assignments, go out and enjoy instead, as in general it´s pretty easy to get good marks as your essays goes (erasmus' level is very good compared to locals' level). I advise you to attend lessons, prepare them half decently in advance and concentrate, that takes much of the hard work away later on!

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Learning English was my reason to go to England as an erasmus. As I was in London, unfortunately for my command of English I could only interact with international students. So I learn many words and expressions (their level was usually very good), but always from foreign students. I could develop aurial and reading skills through attending lectures, listenning to the radio and reading books and newspapers (they're very cheap for members of the university), but I couldn´t really learn the language naturally from English students with a certain continuity as it was difficult to interact with them. London is a big town with many people with their own routine, so if you´re not working for a company or in high-school it´s very difficult to get to know locals well, which is want I intended. As a result, at the end of the year I'd learnt many things but not precisely what I'd planned.

Personal comments
Despite the high fare, sharing a flat of the halls of residence with other five international students was good fun. I feel curious about what living somewhere else, with standard londonners (if they exist at all!), would have been like, but I´m happy to have lived by the uni, that entails quite a number of advantages.
