If you are non-EU citizen,be careful with visa and MMV documents. They may get lost lots of time and it takes time to start and finish the procedure again. You may miss some courses becuase of that reason.

Great city, dysfunctional academic experience

Overall
Groningen is probably the best student city in the Netherlands. Vibrant, safe, full of international students. From a social and quality of life perspective you can't beat it. I am in my final year of Arts, Culture and Media (bachelor level).

Pros
course allows lots of self-customisation, some great lecturers, amazing diversity in the student body
Cons
often feel marginalised and neglected by the uni as an international, poor lecturing and course content quality, lack of organisation. Housing crisis!

Academic
Course recommendations
to much reading stuff (500 pages books per lecture), maybe better to sell compact texbooks with the main conclusions and discuss more in the classes

Personal comments
Go to Manamini, you will find very cheap second-hand furniture. Abn-Amro is the best bank for students, you can have a coffe while you are waiting... The public phones work with cards (you can find them in the super-markets: Albert Heijn, Super de Boer...), you can also get a strippencaard for the bus with ten trams
