What I like the most about living in a big student house was the opportunity of meeting people from all over the world, sharing the common areas and learning other cultures, how to communicate and live together.

almost all people in the Netherlands speak fluently english, so there were no communication problems

Netherlanders have an excellent command of english, which is a guarantee that you will face no problems at all. As for dutch, I did not have enought time there to learn it except for a few basic phrases.
