To understand written Dutch wasn't too hard as I know Swedish, English and German. However, understanding the spoken language was somewhat harder but the Dutchs are very good at English so I didn't have any problems at all.

Personal spending habits
The accommodation was far cheaper than my room in Cambridge. The phone was shared so I didn't use it as much. The nightlife was far better than at home so I went out more often. I could cycle to university so that was free.

Groningen is truly a university town. A lot of possibilities to spend your time. Irish pub, Sally O'Brien's is the starting place for international students on Mondays. It seems to be that bars don't have closing time...

food is more expensive than in Germany, no student cards for travelling for free like in Germany, less for the phone because in Groningen I am using the prepaid card which has ver nice offers

get a bike!spending money all the time on the transportation is not worth it.besides that this way you wont have to attend any sport activities since its a good practice to ride a bike every day

I learnt to communicate in english and spanish. I had been speeking english mostly, although I spoke spanish with my roomate. I think that I would never improve my leanguage skills that much if I wouldn't stay aboad
