Environmental Engineering - Natural Risks and Civil Protection
Lorenzo C
Italy, Graduate
Engineering, Civil, 2021
Overall
Polytechnic of Turin helps graduate students finding interesting job and internship opportunities which mainly concern local companies based in Piedmont region but also businesses in other Italian areas and abroad countries. The university website portal offers a specific personal section with job, thesis project and internship boards which is very useful and intuitive in order to apply for the available open positions. Furthermore the atheneum organises several free meetings and events to help students understanding their career perspectives, learning the useful tools for presenting themselves and getting in touch with potential future employers.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because we have some single rooms completely independent. Usually people has different habits and cultures. Maybe respect is not easy to find everywhere. So if you have conditions to study hard and have fun is perfect. People in the city town appartments are often living there from years. So thinks that have more facilities than you. Maybe in the campus, where there is not an "appartment owner", the rights and duties will be more equal. A foreigner when arrived in Turim has no many options to make up your mind.

Now I'm better after changed house 4 times in 1 year. My first choose was the international hostel (Politecnico doesn't have places to his students - Awful!!!!). I've be there for 1 month trying to find some appartments. My second place was the cheapest room that I've find. But it was not so much comfortable 5 persons in a 2 rooms flat (was awful as well ). So, after 9 months, my father has a better economical situation and I changed that accomodation for a room in a family's house. There was amazing, but the contract was only for 3 months. So, at the moment I'm in a student's residence, and it's a cool place, it's my 1 week there, so maybe would be better hold on more time to make a more accurate analysis.

Studying at Politecnico
Ottavio M
Italy, Graduate
Materials Science, 2021
Overall
The experience at the Politecnico was not entirely positive. Certainly, it is a prestigious university at national level, less at world level, which allows to have a very good preparation from a theoretical point of view and also to have experiences in a foreign country. But, unfortunately, the workshops that are carried out during the course of study are few and, in many cases, not very useful. there is also a problem related to the courses held during the three-year degree, since, in the case of materials engineering, some of them are not entirely relevant or, in any case, do not fully prepare for a possible master's degree. in the end, there isn't eough time during the study period to look for traineeships experience that could be useful for the students future.

Personal comments
I already spoke spanish, french and catalan, so learning italian was not very hard. But what it was difficult was to really improve, to learn and to use the italian expressions with no translation to other languages. Also half the time I spoke in italian, it was with non italian people.
